A release about the widgets, and about never having to hunt for a download again. Home-Screen widgets were empty for almost everybody, and the reason is a detail of how Apple hands out App Groups: the identifier that lets an app and its widget share data is unique across every developer account on earth, so ours belongs permanently to us. When you re-sign the app with your own Apple ID — which is what Sideloadly, AltStore and SideStore all do — you are issued a different identifier, or on a free account none at all, while the app carried on writing to the name it was compiled with. The two halves were reading and writing different boxes. Octave now works out which App Group it was actually given at launch and both halves use that one, so widgets fill in the way they always did on our own builds. Where the signature grants no App Group whatsoever, Top Charts, Discover and Live Radio no longer sit blank — none of the three needs anything from your phone, so they load from Octave's servers directly. Now Playing, Recently Played and Pins do need your library and cannot work around it; instead of telling you to open an app that would change nothing, they now say what is actually wrong. Separately, Octave is an AltStore source: paste octavestreaming.com/apps.json into AltStore, SideStore, Feather or TrollApps and it appears as a listing with every version and its notes, and future releases arrive as an in-app update rather than a file you go and fetch. Every past build is in there too, and the old download links still resolve.
