A track that had aged out of the streaming cache is rebuilt from cold storage, which can take longer than ten seconds to hand over its first note. The player counted that as a dead track and skipped it — even though the download was healthy and on its way. Now it watches whether audio is actually still arriving, and only gives up on a track that has genuinely stopped moving. A song that will not start also gets one fresh attempt before it is passed over.
